Believe it or not, there are foods that you can eat that will increase the amount of fat you burn. Along with exercise, you can turn your body into a fat burning machine that burns fat 24/7.
If you’re on a mission to lose weight try adding these foods to your daily diet.
Whole Grains – Steel cut oats, sprouted grains, and cracked wheat are all good grains to consume each day. One cup per day will be enough to fill you up and provide excellent fat burning properties.
Grapefruit – Start your meals with half a grapefruit to take advantage of the fat burning effects and boost your weight loss.
Nuts and Seeds – Full of good fats, nuts can fill you up, give you added nutrition and improve satiety. Be careful, though; nuts are high in fat. One handful a day is plenty. Seeds like flax, sunflower, and hemp are lower in fat, high in Omega 3s and super good for you.
Hot Peppers – Add hot spices to everything you eat and watch the pounds melt away. The added heat produced with hot sauce and hot peppers increase metabolism during and after your meal.
Cinnamon – This spice helps thin the blood, boosts body circulation, and burns calories and fat when added to your food. Try making a tea with hot water, lemon and cinnamon.
Green Tea – Full of beneficial antioxidants and something called epigallocatechin gallate, green tea can boost metabolism and aid in burning fat. Be careful about the caffeine in this however. Look for Matcha green tea with all it’s beneficial anti-inflammatory properties.
Berries – Great as an anti-inflammatory and full of resveratrol which boosts metabolism and aids in weight loss. They’re also low in calories, so eat all you care to. Add them to your oatmeal in the morning.
Beans and Legumes – You can eat a lot more beans and legumes than you might think. They are high in protein and other essential nutrients. Aim to have a cup every day.
Dark Leafy Greens – You can eat a lot of leafy greens without ever having to worry about how much you are eating unless you’re on blood thinner medications. Prepare them without adding fat with some balsamic vinegar, shredded carrots. You should shoot for eating a pound or more of leafy greens each day.
Fatty Fruit – Coconut, olives and avocados are really good foods to eat that will not only fill you up but also give you added nutrition and healthy fat which will curb hunger and fill you up on fewer calories. Just remember to eat them in moderation and not every day.
Fish – Fish such as wild caught salmon, and Halibut can help give you Omega-3 vitamins which are good for keeping you full longer which usually equals eating less snacks in between to keep you going.
Quinoa– better than rice with lots of protein. A great substitute to have with any meal.
Dark Chocolate – who isn’t happy to hear that chocolate has anti-inflammatory properties. Just be sure to look for the dark chocolate that’s at least 70% cocoa or higher on your next grocery store run.
Sweet Potatoes – if you’re looking to get rid of your potato addiction, sweet potatoes are a good choice. You can mash them, boil them or even make home -made baked fries.
Apple Cider Vinegar – with only 3 calories, drinking apple cider vinegar before meals might help curb your appetite to help you lose weight. 1-2 Tbsp with an 8 oz glass of water should do the trick. Be sure to also check for contraindications with your medications before taking and do not drink this straight without diluting.
Plant-Based Milk – some plan based milk such as split pea milk (my favorite) has more protein and less fat than cow’s milk. This is also a great alternative for those lactose intolerant folks too.
Fermented Foods – these gut boosting foods such as kimchi are powerhouses of good stuff for your fat burning goals.
Yogurt – Plain yogurt with a little fresh fruit is good for weight loss just be sure to avoid the sugar-filled versions. 2-3 servings of yogurt a day should do the trick.
Beets – this dark red vegetable is packed full of nutrients and anti-oxidant properties, vitamins, and iron. Boil, chop and add to your salad or meals.
Ginger – good for nausea and upset stomachs, ginger in one study has also shown promising signs in the reduction of pain for participants.
